Simon Spurr's menswear takes its inspiration from the slender-cut suits his father wore as a village banker in Kent, an hour southeast of London. His lean lines bespoke a certain reverence for quality tailoring, with his latest creations lining the back of OHG as though on a religious altar, proving what we at OHG already know: the right space is a sacred thing.

You know Roxy as the apparel brand for girls who love to surf, as well as those who love to look like girls who love to surf. This sun-seeking brand hung ten over a landlocked OHG, for a book-signing and silent auction to benefit Quiksilver Foundation and Surfrider Foundation. Riding the wave of models-who-do-more, Roxy spokesgirl Lisa Anderson (who also happens to be a four-time World Champion Surfer) made a guest appearance to help launch Surf Girl Roxy, which was penned by author Natalie Linden, who signed copies of this lush coffee-table book that features more than 200 photographs of these Roxy surf gear surfers and their water-logged adventures across the globe. Meta - Contemporary Furniture Showroom

Produced by Mallett Antiques/Ruder Finn
05/10/08 - 05/17/08

“If Hepplewhite and Chippendale could do it in the 18th century,” asks Henry Neville, president of Mallett Antiques, "why can't we in the 21st?” And so Mallett inhabited OHG for 10 days, as they introduced a future classic: Meta, their new line of commissioned contemporary designs that are destined to be collected. While “in residence,” Mallett covered the floor in mulch and displayed two very large, 10-foot wardrobes, among numerous other pieces in an inaugural line created by five major designers. In their appeal to young collectors, Mallett, which has a gallery uptown, chose OHG to showcase its new collection as an installation, designed by Jules Wright, a theater director and the creator of The Wapping Project, a visual and performing arts center in London.

Brantley Gutierrez - Photograhy Exhibition

Produced by Brands United
3/28/08 - 3/30/08

Today's hottest musicians were gathered for one night only at Openhouse in April, as Brantley Gutierrez's extraordinary array of portraits
(http://www.rootedphoto.com/flash_home.htm) --images of today's hottest musicians performing live, and all of whom he has shot for Spin magazine--were exhibited to an SRO crowd of young hipsters, at an event sponsored by Brands United, the uber-cool sneaker company, with a tie-in by Archetype showroom. Newcastle beer kept these revelers on their toes, as Gutierrez's stunningly candid photographs of music's reigning artists surrounded the night for an extended encore.

The Disarmory Show

Produced by dB Foundation
3/28/08 - 3/30/08

"Disarmory could not have happened without Openhouse," notes dB founding member Annabel Daou, who organized The Disarmory Show. "There's a vibe in this space that allows for such a broad creative energy, so much so that the space itself==though it's big—inspires total creativity!"

Amid the hubbub of the contemporary art fairs that took over New York for one week in March, the dBfoundation presented The Disarmory Show, a tactical subversion and wry commentary on the glitz and inflation that so marks the contemporary art scene today. Eleven artists were asked to physically or conceptually disarm a work of their own choosing from the seminal 1913 International Exhibition of Modern Art. In conjunction with their installation, the dBfoundation produced 'The Disarmory,' a newspaper featuring reviews and editorials relating to the artwork, performances, and historical antecedents of the event. Aligning geographic location with the temporal dislocation upon which Disarmory was premised, the artworks were presented in a lone booth in the expansive gallery space and the show was open to the public during three evenings of events over the weekend of March 28 through March 30. Converse 1Hund(RED) Artists Launch Event

Produced by Radar Entertainment
3/27/08

"The core idea behind Converse 'Conversations' was to raise awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa," explains Bret Heiman, Radar Entertainment. "By uniting a diverse group of artists and musical performers under one cause, we were able to coordinate a very exciting and somewhat unprecedented event. Each artist selected for the project was tasked with the creation of an original sneaker design, emphasizing the importance of the project's mission.

"When we set out to select a venue for our NYC event," Bret says, "the Openhouse Gallery was the perfect match. The space was raw, much like a blank canvas and offered two rooms for us to customize."

Make Me a Supermodel (Episodes 4 & 11)

Produced by Bravo Television
3/16/08

Two episodes of this popular reality show were filmed at Openhouse in March: in the first, the models were challenged to use their bodies as art. Their bodies painted, these contestants filed into our venue in a processional and then posed as a living sculpture as onlookers analyzed their ability to pose. In the second (non-sequential) episode, four finalists were selected from a photo shoot the day before, wherein each of them posed as one of the four elements (fire, earth, wind, water). Then, their four best portraits were enlarged and hung at Openhouse for a gallery showing; the four supermodel-hopefuls, along with supermodel-judges Nikki Taylor and Tyson Beckford, and guest-judge Jennifer Starr, were filmed checking out the photography.
